Citing a Website in Essay Format
Citing a Website in Essay FormatCiting a website in essay form is not hard. In fact, it can be done using a few simple rules that help you avoid the pitfalls of citing another web site. This technique is best if you are doing your work from home or with friends. The fact that these examples are from personal experience only shows how easy this method is.It's important that you decide what you are going to cite. To start with, the most basic of these examples is the 'headline' of the article itself. By this, I mean the first paragraph of the article. Here you can use any words you wish to link to the website you want to cite. A better example of a headline would be 'A House Divided by a River', or 'The Horrors of Wartime' or something else with a different focus. Even if the website that you want to cite doesn't have a catchy headline, you should find one anyway. You can also cite a website by its URL. You can do this either with a quotation mark, as in '.com ', or without one, as in ' dot.com'. By using the URL without a quotation mark, you can include the web address of the website without the rest of the URL.Using a quote within the body of your essay, or, if you want to emphasize a point, you can cite a website by its quotes. Just make sure that you do not end the quoted source within the body of the essay. When quoting a website, be sure to put the URL of the website in parentheses, with the quotation marks around it. The URL must be in parentheses. For example, if the quoted website was 'eBay.com ', then 'eBay.com' must be included in parentheses with the quotation marks around it.The same idea applies to quoting multiple websites. You can just use the last URL on the quoting portion of the essay, or you can break it up into separate sentences, or even into paragraphs. This is a great way to include your favorite websites and all their references within the essay. To cite more than one website, simply add additional parentheses to each quote. For example, if you used eBay.com, and another website was 'FreeMorris.com', you could still include those quotes in parentheses and break it up into two or three sentences. Just keep in mind that the first quote of each paragraph must be from the exact website you are citing. If you are citing a website that has many different websites as its links, you can break the link up further into several sentences. Remember that when doing this you have to put a space between the quote and the parentheses. Now that you have mastered the basics of citing a website in essay format, you will be well on your way to having a great essay. Take the time to make sure that your citations are perfect. Have a friend or family member read your essay as you proofread it. This gives you the time to check that your citations are correct.Essay writing is a skill that can be learned, and it is a very important part of our education in this country. When you are beginning your essay writing skills, the best thing that you ca n do is to take advantage of the resources available to you, and cite a website in essay format.
